Quick Entry: say or type what you spent

Margaret has just come home from Save-On-Foods. Before she puts the groceries away, she tells VIVA what she spent. It takes about a minute.

Quick Entry lets you record money coming in or going out in your own words, by speaking or typing. You don’t need to fill in a form.

Open Quick Entry

What you’ll do: open the Quick Entry screen.

  1. Tap the microphone button. You’ll find it in the middle of the bar at the bottom of the screen.

Add an expense by speaking

What you’ll do: say what you spent, and let VIVA record it.

  1. Press and hold the microphone button. Keep your finger on it while you speak. The first time, your device asks for permission to use the microphone. Choose to allow it.

  2. Say what you bought and how much. For example: “I spent sixty-four dollars on groceries today.”

  3. Let go of the button. VIVA sends what you said. Your words appear on the screen once you let go, not while you’re speaking. VIVA may take a few moments to reply.

Add an expense by typing

What you’ll do: type what you spent, the same way you’d say it.

  1. Tap the keyboard button on the left.

  2. Type what you spent. For example: “I spent $64.20 on groceries today”.

  3. Tap the send button inside the box.

When VIVA asks you a question

If VIVA needs a detail, it asks. Most often, that’s how you paid.

  1. Tap the answer that fits, such as Debit card. You can also say or type your answer.

Check what VIVA saved

VIVA saves straight away, without asking you to confirm. Quick Entry uses an automated AI service to understand your words, and it can get things wrong. So it’s worth a quick look at the amount and the date each time, especially after speaking.

  1. Tap the menu button at the top left of the Quick Entry screen. This opens Recorded transactions.

  2. Look over your entry. The list shows your most recent 20 on this device. The full list is on the Transactions page.

Fix or delete a mistake

Mistakes are fine, and easy to fix.

  1. In Recorded transactions, tap the three dots beside the entry.

Record money coming in

Quick Entry works for income too. Margaret records her CPP payment the same way.

  1. Say or type what you received. For example: “Got $850 CPP last Friday”.

  2. Answer the question if VIVA asks how you received it, such as Direct deposit.
