Add expenses and income by hand
Quick Entry is handy, but sometimes you’d rather fill in a form. Margaret does this when she has a receipt in front of her. This chapter shows the form for money going out and money coming in.
Add an expense
What you’ll do: record something you spent, using the form.
-
Open Expenses. On a phone or tablet, tap Expenses in the bottom bar. On a computer, choose Expenses in the left-hand menu.

How you paid
Choose the way you really paid. The choices are Cash, Debit card, Credit card, Cheque and Bank transfer.
Paying by credit card lowers Money available right away. VIVA counts the purchase when you save it, not when your card bill arrives. This keeps the figure honest about what you’ve already committed to spending.
Add income
What you’ll do: record money that came in, such as a pension payment.
Sam, a friend of Margaret’s who is 60 and still works part-time, adds income from several places. The steps are the same for everyone.
-
Open Income. Tap Income in the bottom bar (computer: Income in the left-hand menu).
-
Tap Add Income.
- Add Income button
- Add Income button
- Add Income button
-
Fill in the New Income form. Choose the Category that fits, such as CPP, OAS, GIS, Employment Income or RRIF / RRSP Withdrawal. Add the amount, a description and the date.
